On the 17th sep’09, our batch of first semester went for an Industrial Visit to “YAKULT DANONE INDIA” production plant at SONEPAT. Dr. Juhi Upmanyu accompanied the students.Naved shah,first semester shares his experience.
“Yakult factory is located in Sonepat, about 50 km from the Gurgaon campus. We reached the plant at about 11am in the morning and was greeted by Ms.Charu Pandit, the Public Relations Officer of Yakult. She familiarized us with various products of Yakult and showed us picture of different YAKULT products, newspapers cuttings, picture of Bacteria, etc. In conference room we had a presentation. Then we had a plant visit where they showed us their production plant how the YAKULT drink is made."
WHAT IS YAKULT?
In 1930 a Japanese scientist, Dr.minoru Shirota discovered the strain of bacteria - Lactobacillus casei and is named strain shirota. It is a pro-biotic drink that could reach the intestines alive to impart health benefits. Yakult drink improves Digestion, builds Immunity & prevents infection. He succeeded in culturing a lactic acid bacteria, which is beneficial to human beings.
PRODUCTION OF YAKULT
- There are various stages to produce a probiotic drink YAKULT, i.e.
- Mixing of Raw Materials
- Storage Tank/Dissolving Tank
- Homogenization machine/Blending Tank
- Injection Moulding Room
- Printing Machine
- Filling Machine/Sealing machine
- Packaging Machine
- Refrigeration Room
QUALITY CONTROL during production process is of very high standard wherein :.
- more than 100 tests/checks are carried out to ensure that the final product tastes right
- special care is taken to safeguard the viability of live YAKULT bacteria.
- workers have to wear special protective clothes.
- workers sanitise their hands and pass through the air shower entering the production area.
- bottling and filling area is controlled with germ-free air.
- every batch of YAKULT produced is monitored 24 hours before it is dispatched for sale.
- Frequent testing at our on-site quality control division makes sure that each bottle of YAKULT has 6.5billion beneficial bacteria i.e. Lactobacillus casei strain shirota and the product is of the highest standard, right up till the date of expiry.
