31st October 2009, MBA Marketing students from Skyline Business School went for Maruti Suzuki India Limited visit at Gurgoan. Maruti Suzuki's facility in Gurgoan houses three fully integrated plants. While the three plants have a total installed capacity of 350,000 cars per year, several productivity improvements or shop floor Kaizens over the years have enabled the company to manufacture nearly 700,000 cars/ annum at the Gurgaon facilities.
The entire facility is equipped with more than 150 robots, out of which 71 have been developed in-house. More than 50 per cent of our shop floor employees have been trained in Japan.Their success can be proved from the fact that the company annually exports more than 50,000 cars and has an extremely large domestic market in India selling over 730,000 cars annually. More than half the cars sold in India are Maruti car .
- The visit let us know the whole procedure of manufacturing cars which amazed us that a car can be manufactured in just 16 seconds.
- We have seen the entire plant and learnt their production cycle.
- We have seen the process layout and team dynamics where every individual is doing his job dedicatedly.
- The most interesting part is to see the robotics. It helps us to understand that how company is using Artificial Intelligence for quality production.
