ANNUAL CONVENTION, 2009 OF DEPT. OF FINANCIAL STUDIES, DELHI UNIVERSITY

Topic: Powering Towards Financial Resurgence: New Paradigms and Strategies

AFCON, the student body of Master of Finance and Control (MFC) at University of Delhi organized its XXII Annual Convention on 12th of September 2009, on the theme ‘Powering Towards Financial Resurgence: New Paradigms and Strategies’ at Hotel Hyatt Regency. The event was an industry interface platform where finance professionals and academicians held discussions and provided insights on latest developments in finance world.

Seminar was divided into three sessions. The first session, the inaugural session began at 9:30 a.m. with the welcome of the Chief Guest, Mr. R.K. Nair, executive director, SEBI. It was followed by the key note address of Mr. Atul Kumar Rai, CEO & MD, IFCI Ltd, and session addresses by special guests Mr. Jean-Francois Pierron, Regional Director, IBM, Bordeaux, France & and Mr. Rajneesh Singh, Group Head, HR, Network 18 Group. The session familiarized us with the current financial position and Future financial predictions of India. It apprized us of their view point on the financial overview of India.

The second session on Indian financial market began at 11:00 a.m.  This session included the panel discussion, interaction and debate by Mr. Parry Singh, MD, Red Fort;  Ms. Jennifer Mcenhill, Vice President, Morgan Stanley Advantage Services; Mr. RK Gupta, MD, Tauras Mutual Fund; Mr. D.R Dogra, Deputy Managing Director, CARE; Juergen Fieldler, Director, Deutche Bank Operations International & Mr.Vivek Dahiya, Founder & CEO, GenReal property Advisors Limited on the topics:
  • Real estate investment
  • Raising Equity Capital - A Primary Market Perspective :
  • Realigning Mutual Fund Portfolio Strategies
  • Credit Rating in India – Changing Perspectives
  • Risk Management - Learning from Global Credit Crunch:
  • Real Estate – Attaining Lost Heights
The wisdom of the knowledge shared by them succoured us in learning the practical aspects of our theoretically taught academic topics.

The third session on Corporate India began at 2:30 p.m. this session had an exclusive blend of topics in the convention. such as fixed income securities, commodity markets, Infrastructure, Mutual Funding Challenges for Indian Corporates, Corporate Restructuring & Creating Value Through Risk Management  by the corporate guests Mr. Shailesh Pathak, Managing Director, ICICI Ventures; Mr. Seshagiri Rao, Jt. Managing Director & Group CFO, JSW Steel Ltd; Mr. Awdhesh Krishna – Managing Director, Human Resources, Nomura, India; Mr. Tushar  Pandey, Country head - SIAG, Yes Bank & Mr. S. V. Narasimhan, Director (Finance), IOC Ltd.
In this session the guests shared their experiences on various techniques used by them during rescission in their businesses, its affect on their businesses, hedging of the positions, minimization of risk, discussion on Lehman Brother case etc. to deal with various situations in corporate world.
The convention was extremely interactive & knowledgeable. We felt free to ask questions and get our doubts cleared in the convention. The arrangement was so good that it created a friendly environment between the guests and the participants. It was one of the most wonderful experiences of our lifetime.
We are proud & honoured to represent our college at such prestigious event. We long for such conventions to be included more often in our academic session to shape up our career with recent trends. We are very grateful & thankful to our college to have given us the opportunity to be a part of this convention.
